Shirley J. Kirkpatrick, 88, of Fletcher departed this life Thursday, June 6, 2024.

She was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Grassy to Roy and Bessie Cooper.

She was a 1953 graduate of Lutesville High School.

Shirley was a homemaker while the children were young. She retired from K-Mart after 10 years and worked at her daughters’ hair salon in De Soto for 15 years. In her free time, she loved to work in her flower garden, feed her hummingbirds and spend time with her family and dogs.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Morton; brothers, John Henry and Aldo Cooper; grandson, Mark A. Kirkpatrick; and sons, Bradley W. and Randy D. Kirkpatrick.

She is survived by Dean W. Kirkpatrick of Fletcher, her husband of 71 years; daughter, Connie (James) Crook of Fletcher; son, Shawn R. (Tina) Kirkpatrick of De Soto; brother, Gary (Charlene) Cooper of St. Charles; brothers-in-law, David (Janet) Kirkpatrick of Fletcher and Lyndall Liley of Jackson; sister-in-law, Ora Mae Kirkpatrick of Grassy; three grandchildren, Matthew W. Kirkpatrick, Philip R. Kirkpatrick and John David Kirkpatrick; six great-grandchildren, Jordyne, Madeline, Aidan, Kellan, Cooper and Daniel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as her dogs.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Arbor View in Cedar Hill for the loving care provided Shirley during the five months she was there.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Ford and Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the funeral home, with Pastor Elijah Allen officiating.

Burial will be at Grassy Friendship Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to The Alzheimer's Association.
