Bill Choate, a beloved family man and community figure, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024. Known for his dedication to family, sports, and his work as a flood insurance adjuster, Bill's legacy endures.

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Frank William "Bill" Choate passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children. 

He was born March 11, 1956, to Charles William Choate and Myra J. Miller-Choate.

He resided in Marble Hill for many years after graduating from Woodland High School in 1974. Bill married Karen Francis-Choate on July 16, 1983, and was married for 40 years. They had two children, Ryan Choate and Kyla Choate.

Bill and Karen fulfilled their dream of moving to Gulf Shores in 2018 after their retirement. 


Bill owned and operated Choate’s Food Mart in Marble Hill for 20 years. The last 20 years, he worked as a flood insurance adjuster responding to hurricanes all over, helping families get back on their feet.

In Bill’s young adult days, he was very competitive in sports. He played softball, tennis and sand volleyball. He was a coach for many kids in the Marble Hill community and coached his own children. Recently, he competed with his son in some intense cornhole games.

He loved his family very much, and his grandchildren — Elsy Mae and Tate — brought him much joy. Bill was a member of the Scopus Church of Christ and the Gulf Shores Church of Christ.




Bill is survived by his loving wife, Karen Lee Choate; two children Ryan William Choate and Kyla Danae Choate (Daryn); two beautiful grandchildren, Elsy Mae Hulvey and Tate William Holweg; siblings, Lonnie Choate (Susan) and Linda Caldwell (Don); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Choate; mother, Myra J. Choate; and sister, Donna Tinnin.

Bill’s family is planning a private celebration of life in Marble Hill at a later time.
